¡Towards the SRM'2008!

The past weekend, and during the day of launchings programmed for the month of April, the friends who met in the precious cultivated fields of the region of “El Segrià”, talked about the so close we are of the Spanish Rocketry Meeting (SRM'08), and the so close we have the memories of the last year's edition.

It is completely impossible that we remember the spectacular images of each of the 71 flights that we carried out a wide group of rocketeers which we burned more of 20kN·seg during the three days of the meeting. I suppose that each one of us will remember its special moments. Let me that, forgetting to mention many of those moments, simply remember some of them. Probably the noise of the Vector1 of Jaume Solé, boosted to more than 1.300m with a K570W motor with 2.060 N·seg, is let still hear in the green planes of Lleida. We have seen the images of the video camera that equipped this magnificent rocket for hundreds of times during the long winter. Like the spectacular flight of the veteran Magnum of Stefano Figini that this time returned to fly with a precious K550W motor. But the spectacularity is not only reserved to the most powerful. The smallest rockets compete with them in many aspects. Neither Claudia nor Albert would change their MicroMagum with A8-3 motor by the true Magnum. Like Eduard, with his tremendously smaller Talon0.7 , would not probably do the same with the precious Giacomo Bosso's Talon 4 launched during the 2005 edition. Laia did not remain either back with its good decorated models.

In a special place of our memory we probably kept the moments from the certification flights (successfully or without success). It is when everything seems to go very fast and the heart annoys with force when hearing the voice of the LCO making the count down while the model of one of our friends is in the launch pad waiting the igniter burn. The L2 certifications of Manuel Morales , of Olivier Labrevoir and mine , with the Thor , the Raptor and the Titan respectively; or the L1 certification of Vicente López with the Black Pearl are remembered by the excitation of the moment. But also the unsuccessful attempt of Joaquim Gaya still came to our memory the past Saturday in Rosselló, when we saw the perfect flight of his “El Gegant del Pi” after obtaining its L2 in Derde only a month ago, and that refused to work correctly during the SRM. In the chapter of certifications, and although it was a certification obtained in Switzerland days before, deserves a chapter to part the L3 of Jose Luis Sanchez. It was during SRM'07 when Jose Luis shared his experience with the big group of colleagues.

They are much more images that come to our memory: the Talon of Umberto Marchi, the biphase of Vyger, the Nardo of Adrià Zurriaga, the ballistic flights (and not so ballistic ) of the Zotor, the superdetailed models of Joan Maria Parareda, the aerial images of Aníbal Vega , or the Executioner of Enrique Arce and its onboard video ,… We could continue!

Let me also have some special words for the people who carried out with the hardest part of the long organization of this event. I talk about our president, José Luis Cortijos and about our secretary, Mary Pera . Both even found awhile for flying their rockets during the meeting. All we must gratefulness to them.

The SRM is, without any doubt, a meeting of friends . A moment in which families enjoyed together with an exciting hobby. A little while in that we dreamed in even making new projects before finalizing those that we have in hand. So now is time for turning all these projects into reality.

From this website, and on behalf of our club and Tripoli-Spain, I invited to all of you to participate in the next SRM. It does not concern the size of our models or the power necessary to fly them; it only concerns the desire to share pleasant moments with friends. But always flying safety!

I hope to meet you next October for writing a new chapter of our memories.

Sincerely,

Josep Maria Garrell
